Yes, Hadestown is inspired by ancient Greek mythology, reimagining two of its most famous stories: the tragic love story of Orpheus and Eurydice and the myth of Hades and Persephone.
The musical follows Orpheus, a gifted musician, as he journeys to the underworld to rescue Eurydice after she makes a desperate bargain with Hades, the god of the underworld. Alongside them, audiences meet other well-known mythological figures including Hermes, the messenger god and narrator of the story, Persephone, queen of the underworld, and the Fates, who influence the destinies of the characters.
While Hadestown stays true to the heart of these ancient myths, it retells them creatively combining timeless themes of love, hope, and resilience with contemporary music and storytelling, making Greek mythology feel fresh and relevant for today’s audiences.

The Lyric Theatre London is easily accessible via public and private transport, located at 29 Shaftesbury Avenu, London, W1D 7ES.
The closest tube and train stations are Piccadilly Circus (2 minute walk, Leicester Square (5 minute walk) and Charing Cross (10 minute walk). You can plan your journey here.

Small bags are welcome, but larger items such as suitcases and backpacks may not be permitted inside the auditorium. Bag checks are in operation, so please allow extra time on arrival.

Yes, there are accessible wheelchair spaces at the Lyric Theatre in the Dress Circle Boxes D and E, which are at street level. Please report to the main entrance on arrival and a member of staff will accompany you to the wheelchair access entrance on Shaftesbury Avenue. If you need any more information about this please contact access@nimaxtheatres.com or call 0330 333 4815.
There is step-free access available for wheelchair users to the Dress Circle. However, other patrons entering via the main entrance will need to climb four stairs to the foyer. To access the auditorium there are 24 stairs to the Stalls, Dress Circle is located off the main foyer, 25 stairs to the Upper Circle and 60 stairs to the Balcony. Unfortunately, there is no lift in the theatre.
